Fog Eater Vegetarian Restaurant (in Mendocino, California)

We were so impressed when we wandered into the Fog Eater Cafe, an organic vegetarian restaurant we found hidden away in the small seaside village of Mendocino, California.

The Fog Eater Cafe was visually adorable (the interior design was artistic perfection). Then we discovered that nearly the entire menu could be made vegan, with gluten-free options.

And the food sounded like it was exquisite gluten-free vegan food. Plus, it was being served in a tiny California town. We could not believe this.

So we ate at the Fog Eater Cafe every day possible while in Mendocino, starting with their Happy Hour specials each day and then staying to order from their main menu.

We viewed each visit to the Fog Eater as a taste-testing party. A little dish of this. A little dish of that. Soon, we’d eaten entire meals.

The Hush Puppies were drizzled with a sauce so delicious that I even included a photo of its plate drippings. The Fried Green Tomatoes were not officially on the menu, but a special I needed to taste.

I became addicted to the savory little dish of Mashed Potatoes and Gravy, so I ordered that at every meal. Once I tried the creamy gluten-free vegan Mac n’ Cheese, I also had to order that at every meal.

More food is pictured in the photos, and if it’s possible to say one menu item was better than another, I couldn’t. I thought it was all spectacular.

But I will confess that the gluten-free cornbread made my Biscuit Sliders taste out of this world. I felt sorry for anyone not eating the GF sliders.

The food and the ambiance were everything one could hope for. And then some.

My only regret? We didn't explore the desserts until our last visit … because our bellies had been so happily, completely, deliriously full.
