A Sustainable Visit to Stockholm
Due to the pandemic, we were not able to visit Stockholm this summer. To say we’ve been sad about this is an understatement. But we support this, as it’s necessary to help keep everyone safe.
We love spending summertime in Sweden because loved ones are there, it’s stunning in the summer, and it offers more sustainability than we find in many places.
In Stockholm, one can walk or bicycle nearly everywhere, ride a free IKEA bus, hop on a biofuel airport shuttle, hail an eco taxi, or stroll beside autos that don’t smell of powerful exhaust.
Ferries also transport one over water (you might still see puffs of smoke coming out of some of those, but that’s changing).
Stockholm also offers a great selection of (gluten-free) vegan sustainable food.
And though there’s still that odd plastic (it’s so difficult to avoid, but we keep trying), recycling in Stockholm is essentially automatic.
So, to soothe ourselves during this time that we can’t travel to Sweden, below I’m sharing a brief photo essay—a glimpse of what we see when we visit Stockholm.
