The Sacred Space (in Summerland, CA)

The Sacred Space was the first place we visited in Summerland, CA. It was such a nurturing place to pause. Even in winter, when clouds briefly appeared.

The Sacred Space website explained just a whisper. Their Events and New Arrivals pages revealed just a peek into what they offered.

But that’s not how we discovered The Sacred Space. My boyfriend noticed its beautiful corner lot as we drove by. He told me I needed to go inside. He said it would make me happy.

And he was right.

This local shop and garden felt like a place to retreat. Just by existing. Just by allowing one to be there. It was a place of peace.

Complimentary tea was brewing. Soothing music was playing. Candles were burning. Its meditative energy carried me throughout the property.

The shop was filled with mindful keepsakes—spiritual books, jewelry, and stones. Also candles, sage, ceramics, glassware, tea, blankets, Hindu art, and Eastern clothing.

The grounds were filled with East Asian architectural antiques and rare artifacts—outdoor meditation (or yoga, or reading) pavilions, large wooden doors, Buddhist statues, and more.

Winding pathways wove through this green oasis, with flowers floating down tiny waterfalls, into a pond. Offerings were tucked into statues.

The event space, where monks have come, held spiritual and musical events, breath work, sound and intuition workshops—even psychic and tarot readings for those who enjoy them.

The Sacred Space was a peaceful experience, indeed. A sanctuary to meditate. Or to contemplate. Where one could feel well. A place where one might feel a little love.

Because of how one was greeted. Because of how one was allowed to roam. Because of how one was allowed to feel at home.
