La Conner, Washington
Recently, I traveled to La Conner, Washington—once a trading post on the water, now a tiny town. Less than ten miles southwest of Mount Vernon, on the outskirts of the Skagit Valley tulip fields, I love that La Conner is directly across the channel from the Swinomish. This means the Swinomish reservation is always within beautiful sight, along with boats of every kind. This also means La Conner displays native art, which is so lovely to see. The wind, the clouds, and a few bugs whipped by as I roamed through town, remembering my childhood days here. I loved Seaport Books, a small cozy bookstore with the kindest owner. Caravan Gallery is a zen-like shop of treasures that I want to see again and again. Cruser Coffee had the tastiest matcha latte (with plant milk) that I could find in town. And I ate some delicious gluten-free vegan food at the Thai Garden. Spotting a shop owner take a much-deserved nap made this trip even sweeter.
