(Gluten-Free) Vegan Food in Hood River, Oregon

I always enjoy traveling to Hood River, Oregon—especially now that they have one fully vegan restaurant, plus delicious gluten-free vegan options at other local eateries.

Hood River, Oregon, is a small, rugged town located in the Columbia River Gorge, where it seems extreme sports are constantly visible on the water. It is incredible to witness.

So when it was time to make our way across Oregon recently, it was important to pause and spend some time in Hood River.

Of course, it was scorching hot, and we were car camping, so I desperately hoped to find restaurants with air conditioning (or even just a fan blowing air around).

My priority was to visit the eateries known to serve quality gluten-free vegan food options. I’ve listed them below in the order that I enjoyed seeking them out.

Because (as I can’t help but say) I think every single body deserves delicious climate-friendly food. Even in small, rugged towns. Even if we have celiac disease or other dietary restrictions.

Golden Goods Sandwich and Bake Shop

Golden Goods serves entirely plant-based vegan food with a few gluten-free items. We enjoyed sandwiches without bread—large salad-like meals. | Golden Goods on Google Maps

“Golden Goods … Hood River's first fully-vegan eatery … veggie-forward sandwiches focused on real food instead of meat substitutes (think: lentil meatballs on the meatball sandwich). Much of the bread and baked goods … made in-house, but some things, like any gluten-free vegan bread, may be brought in from elsewhere. There will be kid-friendly items on the menu. For drinks expect kombucha, juice, espresso, [and more].”

Remedy Cafe

I really appreciate Remedy’s offerings, as they have a good selection of plant-based vegan dishes that are also gluten-free. (They also offer cleanses!) | Remedy Cafe on Google Maps

“Developing relationships in downtown Hood River since 2006.

“Customers are the primary motivation for our work, they are not an interruption of our work. Customers are people who bring us their wants and desires and our primary objective is to satisfy them as best we can. Most importantly, our customers are fellow human beings with feelings and emotions like our own; they are equals to be treated with courtesy and respect at all times.”

Huckleberry’s Natural Market

Huckleberry’s is the natural market inside Rosauer’s grocery store. I go to Huckleberry’s if I can’t find a grocery or personal item at Farm Stand (discussed above). | Huckleberry’s Market on Google Maps
