The Fala Bar (Vegan Falafel Restaurant in Santa Barbara, CA)

When we found the Fala Bar—a vegan falafel restaurant in Santa Barbara, CA—it was like we were transported overseas (because the last time we saw a falafel bar, we were overseas).

We could not believe our luck. We were in Santa Barbara, California, for who knew how long, and we had a falafel bar before our eyes.

That was significant because my boyfriend loves falafels. To this day, I would not know what a falafel was, let alone what a falafel tasted like, had he not guided me to them.

My partner quickly appreciated the chance to connect with Far, the kind proprietor of the Fala Bar. He felt (and still feels) deep gratitude for the moments he enjoyed conversation with Far.

Located inside the beautiful Santa Barbara Public Market, we placed our Fala Bar orders by calling ahead (805-845-0700), and then we picked up our orders as takeout.

We liked ordering that way because we felt it allowed the Fala Bar time to prepare our food, pressure-free. The few hardworking staff opened every day from 11:30 am - 9:00 pm.

This also allowed us to cozy up and eat where we could slowly savor each bite—and where my fingers could politely drip with all the extra gooey condiments I love to pile on.

That’s how I enjoy a moist falafel meal.

I’m still trying to figure out how the Fala Bar made their Thousand Island dressing and veggie mayo sauce taste like they were created from whipped cashews. Light. Creamy. Rich.

And I can’t believe I didn’t try the sweet potato fries until late in the game, because now I keep dreaming of Fala Bar’s sweet potato fries.

But I should clarify that—because each entree was so filling on its own—I never needed sweet potato fries to fill me up. I just wanted them.
