Gluten-Free Vegan Restaurants in Geneva, Switzerland

(Gluten-Free) Vegan Restaurants in Geneva, Switzerland

I didn’t dare think we’d find gluten-free vegan restaurants when we arrived in Geneva, Switzerland. Especially since Switzerland is a small country known for dairy, potatoes, meat, and bread—plus lots of cheese and cream sauce.

However, we discovered that Geneva actually has a good amount of sustainable food establishments serving up plant-based vegan food, including—and sometimes entirely—gluten-free items on their menu. Take a look at them.

Alive Vegan Cafe

Alive Vegan Cafe is a plant-based vegan cafe (serving gluten-free bread and more) that has the feel of a coffee shop. This is where we also found Alive’s concept store, workshops, yoga, pilates, and personal training.

The food was beautiful and the ambiance was soothing—especially after a day of trekking all over Geneva. This might also be the perfect place to order a special cake or holiday dessert. | Alive Vegan Cafe on Google Maps

“Because purely plant-based food is to be taken particularly seriously, we do everything we can to satisfy you both in terms of taste and the quality of our products. A delicious gluten-free bread, beautiful organic vegetables, local ingredients, fresh, vegan and of high nutritional quality.

“A multitude of healthy dishes throughout the day, and hot cuisine on Mondays and Tuesdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. last order and Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 9:45 p.m. last order.  We also welcome you for your brunch on Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. last order.” Alive

Aux Deux Portes

Aux Deux Portes is a plant-based vegan establishment serving up gorgeous plates, gluten-free bread (with vegan cheese), and pastries. A restaurant, caterer, and grocery store, Aux Deux Portes also holds cooking workshops.

In Geneva since 1999 (incredible!), I’d love to take their cooking workshops, since they cater to those with food intolerances, who eat gluten-free, without sugar or animal products. This might also be the perfect place to order a special cake or holiday dessert. | Aux Deux Portes on Google Maps

“All our preparations are homemade with organic ingredients and 100% Vegan. Come and discover in our grocery store some of the organic ingredients that we use every day in our kitchen: cereals, legumes, flour … classic sugar substitutes, vegetable milks, gluten-free pasta, cookies, organic wines …

“learn to cook with your intolerances, without gluten, without sugar, without dairy products … but always with love and generosity … varies according to the seasons, it is based on yin and yang, colors and flavors. We taste the prepared dishes together.” Aux Deux Portes

Be Kind Cafe

Fully plant-based vegan (offering gluten-free items), I love the focus of Be Kind Cafe: in a world where you can be anything, why not be kind? Serving food that doesn’t harm other beings, one can enjoy plant-based burgers, soups, plates, quiches, falafel salad wraps, and treats. Creating a warm welcome to well-being, Be Kind Cafe is influenced by cuisines from around the world. | Be Kind Cafe on Google Maps

Sandrine has always been passionate about pastry, cooking and travel.  She discovers the benefits of vegan, healthy and gourmet cuisine, and decides to leave an accomplished career in the audiovisual sector to combine passion, conviction and work.

“Charlotte fell very small in the pot of the family restaurant where her grandmothers taught her their cooking secrets. Once her palate has been educated and a cook's training in hand, Charlotte travels the world, and more especially Asia, to discover spices, flavors, cultures ...

“Curious and passionate about the different cuisines of the world, she appreciates work with plants and sublimate them with French, Italian, Asian or even Indian notes.  This is what she does daily at the Be Kind Café by highlighting the fruits and vegetables of local organic producers (La ferme de la Touvières, Les jardins de Gaia).

“Very instinctive in the preparation of restaurant dishes, she is also very attentive to the wishes and comments of customers. Her meeting with Sandrine was decisive in her decision to invest fully in vegan cuisine: ‘I was seduced by her ideas in cooking and pastry making which are bubbling with originality and gluttony.’

“Both driven by the same optimism and the same passion for home-made, cosmopolitan, healthy and tasty cuisine, Charlotte and Sandrine found each other very well.  Forming a complementary team (Charlotte for the salty part and Sandrine for the sweet part), they both aim to delight your taste buds and make you have a good time.” Be Kind Cafe

Bio Fred

Bio Fred, located in beautiful Old-Town Geneva, is marketed as vegan and gluten-free (yet they do cater to other diets). Bio Fred encourages customers to bring their own containers, and if customers forget, Bio Fred uses bio containers. Bio Fred is also a grocery, offering online and bulk purchases, plus classes and workshops. | Bio Fred on Google Maps

“Our vegan and gluten-free cuisine and crusine is simple and tasty, we pay particular attention to food combinations as well as to the elementary rules of diet so that all our dishes are as digestible as possible and suitable for the most demanding. If you suffer from food allergies and intolerances, please let us know.

“Bring your containers! And if you don't have one, know that ours are made from cardboard and PLA (corn starch).

“You will find a range of the most common basic food supplements and everything you need in our bulk to reproduce our confections at home and make your own recipes or creations. We specialize among other things, in Turmeric, its fresh root and its derivatives, fruits are in the spotlight in our assortment.”

Cafe Mutin

Cafe Mutin is an upscale plant-based vegan cafe and restaurant in Geneva (that offers gluten-free options at each meal). I love that they emphasize the importance of offering vegans, vegetarians, plus all others, a special place to discover vegan food. Cafe Mutin presents a gorgeous dish of the week, a vegan burger, potatoes, appetizers/tapas, and more. | Cafe Mutin on Google Maps

“Located in the charming neighborhood of Plainpalais – Les Augustins, the Café Mutin welcome you into its warm and cosy space to enjoy a delicious and original 100% plant-based cuisine.

“At the origin of the Café Mutin, Maud & Léo are passionate cooks and convinced vegan. Give the pleasures of the table an ethical and ecological dimension by favoring local products, organic or from reasoned agriculture and free from any animal exploitation.

“Their desires?  Offer vegans and vegetarians a unique café-restaurant in Geneva but also allow as many people as possible to discover all the creativity and flavors of vegan cuisine.” Cafe Mutin

EnVie Vegan

EnVie Vegan serves vegan specials and pastries (some gluten-free). This includes burgers, bagels, hot dogs, tarts, cookies, brownies, cakes, cheesecake, and donuts.

Since we typically eat as plant-based vegan as possible (fresh food that grows from the ground; not highly processed), we don’t often eat food that looks like our pre-vegan/past fast-food ways. Yet this is exactly what some want, either when transitioning to a vegan diet or when craving the flavor of old addictions.

This might also be the perfect place to order a cake or holiday dessert for those who are not (yet) vegan. | EnVie Vegan on Google Maps

GF Desserts

GF Desserts is a raw vegan (and fully gluten-free!) online Geneva dessert boutique that offers handcrafted cakes, tarts, and more (pick-up or delivered). While not technically a restaurant, they craft beautiful treats for every day and special days. As well, nearly all of their ingredients are plant-based whole foods. | GF Desserts on Google Maps

“GF Desserts stands for guilt-free desserts that are 100% raw vegan, gluten-free and have no refined sugar added. What’s more, our raw desserts are absolutely delectable, despite being less-calorie dense than regular sugary sweets.

“We believe that indulgence on desserts doesn’t have to demolish a healthy diet; discover a world of plant-based cheesecakes and pies that have zero empty calories, yet taste as good as they look! We do our best to rely on Switzerland-grown fruits and berries, organic ingredients and fair-trade produce to ensure the lowest ecological footprint possible.

“We soak and sprout seeds, nuts and grains to ensure that they are easy to digest and your body can access their full nutritional profile. Once sprouted, almonds, walnuts and pecans are dried for 24 hours in a specially constructed dryer, which uses fresh air and has a maximum temperature of 42 °Celsius.

“We freeze-dry, store and powder Local Berries when they are in season to ensure that all GF pies and tarts are infused with vitamins. We open Young Thai Coconuts by hand and use fresh coconut meat to make an incredibly fluffy and velvety cheese cream.

“These raw vegan cooking techniques demonstrate our commitment to quality and ethical values that stand behind each Guilt-Free Dessert.  Hours, days and sometimes weeks were spent perfecting our plant-based recipes, so that you can enjoy the best naturally healthy cakes & pies.” GF Desserts

Green Gorilla Cafe

Green Gorilla Cafe offers vegan and gluten-free smoothies, bowls, and treats (their marketing appears as if this is their sole focus, but they also cater to other diets). We were staying in an apartment that did not lend itself to meal prep, so we’d go to Green Gorilla Cafe when nobody else was open. Their smoothies are near twice the price we normally pay for smoothies (elsewhere in the world), yet only half the price of a meal in Switzerland, and quite filling. This allowed us to sip our healthy snack as we walked through the city. | Green Gorilla Cafe on Google Maps

Joy Madal (organic vegan Swiss ice cream)

You would never guess this, but Joy Madal is where you can find 100% organic vegan Swiss ice cream without refined sugar (some without gluten) inside a houseware and gift shop that caters to those seeking meditation, yoga, and prayer objects.

This organic vegan Swiss ice cream is important to highlight since so many visitors arrive in Switzerland hoping to taste authentic Swiss dairy treats (and they will possibly never notice the dairy is missing from these treats). | Joy Madal on Google Maps

”My family has four generations of vegetarians, and my father was one of the pioneers in Switzerland towards understanding the need for humane treatment of animals.  With such a story, when a friend of mine explained his concept of Vegan Ice Cream, made in Switzerland, using only the highest quality ingredients, I thought that such a product should be made available in Geneva!

”The foundation of our store is spirituality.  In addition to selling gifts, vegan ice cream and household items, we sell many items used in prayer, meditation, yoga, and personal devotion.  I have been studying Sri Chinmoy for over 50 years and aim to combine the positive philosophy of meditation, with an international sense of a World-Family here in the shop.” Joy Madal

Mu-Food

Mu-Food is a plant-based vegan restaurant with most of the dishes also gluten-free (they note if something has gluten). They serve up gorgeous plates, bowls, burgers, treats, and more, operate during lunch hours, and offer catering. | Mu-Food on Google Maps

“From field to plate … having at heart to promote local agriculture, for fresh products, we favor partnerships with small producers and cooperatives in the region working, ideally, without chemical treatments, according to the principles of biodynamics or practicing land reconversion (cultivation intensive -> culture without treatment) …

“Allow people following a specific diet (gluten-free, lactose-free) to find gourmet proposals and not to feel excluded from the party. We want to offer 21st century cuisine, tinged with travel and encounters; dishes steeped in culinary influences from everywhere and made with natural local products.” Mu Food

Oubien Encore

Oubien Encore’s plant-based vegan (and gluten-free) menu offers stunning plates, bowls, quiches, burgers (with gluten-free bread), pastries (also gluten-free), and more. There’s also a long list of beverages. You might not want to leave. | Oubien on Google Maps

“A space that respects life and our planet. Everyday.

On our walls, guest artists, a quiet space, a place to meet and share.” Oubien Encore

Tonic

Tonic serves beautiful vegan and gluten-free dishes at their breakfast and lunch buffets (they serve vegetarian, too). There are plates, quiches, soups, beverages, and more (even sugar-free) treats. They also offer catering. Tonic is focused on sustainability, avoiding waste, and using local and fair trade products. | Tonic on Google Maps

“We are committed against waste and favor products from local agriculture, fair trade or certified environmentally friendly sectors. Convinced of its benefits for the environment and humanity, we want to share the great wealth of vegetarian food. Like our team, our cuisine is cheerful, authentic, and inspired by all the flavors of the world.” —Tonic
