Trinidad Head Tsurai Trail (in Trinidad, California)
We decided to wander down US Route 101, where we paused to hike the Trinidad Head Tsurai trail. It’s located on a rugged headland that is currently considered part of Trinidad, California.
We learned that the Yurok tribe considers this sacred ground. A tribal treasure, the Tsurai Ancestral Society is also now involved in handling its preservation and protection.
This hike was such a peaceful experience.
The Trinidad Head Tsurai trail began and ended at the beach, climbed steadily, lasted at least an hour (we meandered slowly), and provided stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and California coast.
I even noticed multiple cavernous holes that ran deep through the brush, which made me wonder … do bears roam here?
Incredibly, the weather was so quick to alter itself, with marine air rolling in and rolling out, that our views completely changed within minutes. Again and again.
This meaningful experience made us pause to reflect on tribal rights, systemic trauma, and all that indigenous people deserve.
