The Town of Winthrop, WA
In June, we traveled to the town of Winthrop, WA, to enjoy some natural beauty and quiet before the hottest heat and outdoor recreation crowds arrived for the summer.
I love to visit Winthrop (and Mazama) when traveling on the North Cascades HWY (SR 20). I find these stops so peaceful when all is quiet.
Winthrop is a replica of an Old West town, which makes me want to learn about the local First Nations, the First People of the Methow—the Methow People, members of the Coleville Tribes.
I want to learn about the people who’ve existed here for more than 500 generations (or 13,000 years). It brings much deeper meaning when among the wildflowers, trails, and natural beauty.
When I’m in Winthrop, I wander from one end of town to the other, peeking in each shop.
I love the earthy boutique called Gathered, which sells local ethical products in natural and sustainable materials. Winthrop Mountain Sports (including upstairs) is also a favorite stop.
Then we eat at Jupiter for every single meal.
I order the same thing at every single Jupiter meal because it is so delicious and because Jupiter is the only eatery where I’ve found this particular dish…
Roasted Roots Bowl
steamed kale, roasted veggies
(golden beets, yam, parsnip, Yukon potatoes)
topped with crispy chickpeas
and cashew cream
The cashew cream on top is so rich and hearty, adding incredible depth to this meal. (I love to order extra cashew cream on the side … to ensure I have plenty.)
Not only that, but Jupiter is a beautiful establishment with gorgeous indoor and outdoor seating plus other gluten-free vegan menu items, including gluten-free vegan bakery goods.
And I thought I saw apartments above Jupiter … which makes me want to move into one.
