The Good Plow in Carpinteria, CA (RIP)
The Good Plow restaurant in Carpinteria, California, wasn’t entirely gluten-free vegan. But the gf vegan food they did make tasted absolutely amazing.
So we were shocked and saddened when The Good Plow restaurant permanently closed during our time in California. I’m still in mourning.
We started our journey at The Good Plow by dining there a few times a week. We then began to order takeout … so we could slurp and drool each bite in private silence.
It was that tasty. We were that addicted.
My boyfriend loved the Lentil soup so much. It was most often the Soup of the Day. If he could order lentil soup each day I think he would be eternally happy.
He also really loved the Buddha Bowl, which I eventually began ordering, too. Quinoa, roasted sweet potatoes, roasted mushrooms, kale, garbanzo beans, avocado, microgreens, and sauce.
But my favorite, hands down? The Cauliflower Tacos. Gluten-free gochujang, cauliflower, cabbage slaw, pickled red onions, scallions, topped with burnt scallion crema.
I don’t know what it was about the gochujang and crema together, but I am desperate to learn how to make them. And I swear I could pour that crema sauce on anything and be happy.
Also, I know I should never eat fries, no matter what. But I am not perfect. So I ordered fries there once a week or so (then began eating them as takeout so I wasn’t a visibly bad role model).
That said, I did start adding a lot of ketchup to my fries because I love ketchup and was hoping the tomatoes would erase the evidence of french fries in my colon. Again, I am imperfect.
It strikes me that I feel so emotionally attached to this food. My partner does, too. We still feel sad that it’s gone. We still miss it. We can still taste this food just by looking at these photos.
Maybe this appreciation will reach the former owners of The Good Plow restaurant and convince them to write a Good Plow cookbook? Pretty please? With Cauliflower Taco crema on top?
