Staying Informed
For a while now, I’ve been protecting my brain from exposure to media. Yet, I realize now that I must stay informed via some (select) media.
Like many of us, I was exposed to those who thrive on creating chaos and trauma. Those individuals were displayed to me, for years, via media.
That media loop continues to repeat. And there’s been no change for the better.
That’s not good for my brain or body. That’s not good for the health of communities, states, or nations.
Those who display or encourage chaos and trauma … only benefit those who profit from harm. Those individuals and corporations thrive on impunity.
Thus, I was shielding my brain from all that corruption, misinformation, and gossip en masse. A choice that brought me peace.
So why am I changing my behavior a bit?
I experienced something I thought worth sharing, so I wrote an entire post about it. Then I discovered that very something had been widely investigated.
It seemed everyone knew, except me.
I was shocked. I should have known those investigation results. Had I known those results, I would have taken an entirely different path.
Needless to say, I immediately deleted my post and I redirected myself.
I now know how quickly one can become uninformed. And being uninformed can make it appear as if one isn’t concerned with critical thinking. Yet critical thinking is a top priority.
That is what happens when one has been living too far out on a rock. I miss out on important information. It isn’t a wise look.
So I’ve been trying to find sources to keep me updated on important issues plus topics I value, as I continue to shield my brain from harm (from those who profit from chaos and trauma).
This means I’ve been seeking media free from agendas—conflicts of interest due to corporate interests, politics, advertisers, narrow debates, PR, and sensationalism (addictive clickbait).
I’ve been trying to find in-depth independent investigative reporting, where facts are uncovered and presented within context (the plain truth).
I’ve been seeking media that helps us step back and see the whole picture—the facts from each angle (not uninformed or corrupt opinions from each angle).
I’ve been trying to find media that exposes injustice, holds corrupt power to account, and lays bare what’s necessary to help ensure strong and just democracies.
I’ve been seeking multinational global journalism that reports on the diversity that naturally exists in our world—our individual and cultural uniquenesses.
I’ve been trying to find factual information as close to its origins as possible, that assists with positive change to make a meaningful difference. Locally, nationally, and globally.
This search has not been easy. I am an idealist. There is no perfection.
So I’ve gathered the links below—links I am now browsing based on where we’re roaming next. I hope I’ve selected what’s necessary, plus a few ethical gems.
I realize some harmful blasts from corrupt individuals, misinformation, and gossip will still seep through. I plan on scrolling past those harmful blasts, without looking, reading, or clicking.
Right now, this is the best solution I have. But I’ll continue to seek better and update this list regularly. I hope others will share their favorite sources, too, so we can improve this list together.
