Lavender Festival (in Sequim, Washington)

We happened to be in Sequim, Washington, as its annual Lavender Festival season was ending. I so wanted to visit all the Sequim lavender farms.

However, I ran out of cell phone data on this road trip (I didn’t have my new eSIM installed), as well as time, so my ability to research online and visit the farms was limited.

Lavender fields are so beautiful. I want to visit and photograph them all.

But I could only briefly visit the first farm that popped up on Google Maps, on the way out of town.

So I’ve been gathering all the information needed to ensure we can enjoy the Sequim Lavender Festival the next time around. And I’m sharing it here.

I read that it’s thanks to the Sequim Lavender Growers Association (SLGA) that the Sequim-Dungeness Valley has become the Lavender Capital of North America®.

A non-profit, the SLGA has educated the local community and tourists on how to grow and use lavender for nearly thirty years. I find their history interesting.

In the mid-1990s, Sequim farmers and community members gathered to seek ways to preserve their fertile agricultural land in Sequim—precious farmland that was disappearing.

They decided to create a destination that would educate visitors about Sequim’s prairie microclimate rainshadow farming, the perfect climate for lavender to thrive.

The Washington State University (WSU) Cooperative Extension joined the effort, after seeing the deeply concerning rate at which Sequim farmland was disappearing.

Alfalfa farms were turned into lavender farms.

Now, every July, the Sequim Lavender Growers Association partners with the local community to host Sequim’s annual Lavender Festival—a street fair with live music, farm tours, and events.

Some of the lavender farms are actually open to the public for multiple months each year. Some of the lavender farms are only open to the public during July’s lavender festival…

These farms are open as noted below. And I’ve linked their addresses to Google Maps, for easy directions. Of course, I’ll verify this information with the farms directly … before I show up.
