One Day in Cannes, France
Due to everything one hears about the Cannes Film Festival, I’d always assumed that Cannes must be the most incredible place. So, while we were in the south of France for a month (and a half), our first major field trip was to spend one day in Cannes, France.
The beach was beautiful. We walked its entire length.
The shopping boulevard that lines the beach, called the promenade of La Croisette, was stunning, too.
At the end of the boulevard, we found ourselves walking through an empty events center, which turned out to be the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès, where the Cannes Film Festival is held. We realized this when tourists began trickling by, dressed up to photograph themselves in serious pose on the red carpet.
But the reason we were in Cannes that day was for the Cannes Yachting Festival, “the most important nautical meeting afloat in Europe.” We had free tickets, of course, and I mistakenly assumed that everybody could walk aboard all the yachts—you know, just like at RV shows. Turns out it’s not done like that.
Ultimately, that was about all there was to see or do in Cannes, which was definitely unexpected. So, for me, what made every single step through Cannes worth taking? A very special place called Greenland.
